This year we’re continuing the tradition of providing families in our community with all the fixins’ to make a family meal in their own home. By giving these full, unprepared meals to people in need, we’re also giving them the opportunity to spend time with their families, and perhaps enjoy their own Thanksgiving leftovers! But to make sure we have enough food, we need your help!
This year we’re asking for food donations, as well as volunteers to deliver the food to people who are unable to pick up the food from the mission.
If you’d like to help give someone in need a great Thanksgiving, there are three ways you can help.
We want to give families in our community the opportunity to make a full Thanksgiving meal in their own home. But we need food donations to make this work! Please deliver these items to the mission by Wednesday, November 18. Here’s a full list of the items we’ll need:
- Frozen turkeys
- Boxes of stuffing (such as Stove Top or another brand)
- Canned vegetables (green beans, yams, corn, etc.)
- Cranberry sauce
- Mini marshmallows
- Dinner rolls (the kind that don’t need to be refrigerated or frozen)
- Dessert pie (already prepared, the kind that does not need to be frozen)
Food Delivery Volunteers
When: Saturday, November 21 at 9 a.m.
Some of the people on our list will need to have the meal fixins’ delivered to their home. On Saturday, November 21, we’re inviting volunteers to join us for breakfast at 9 a.m. After breakfast we’ll be delivering the boxes of food to the homes who are unable to pick up the food on their own.
To volunteer for food delivery, please contact Boris Wiggins at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (919) 934-9257.
The Smithfield Rescue Mission operates 365 days a year, and your donations help make that possible! If you’d like to donate money in order to help pay for Thanksgiving food, or to help with day-to-day operations, go here to learn how.
On Thanksgiving Day, a local church has volunteered to provide a Thanksgiving meal for our residents, and anyone in the community who arrives in need of a meal. We will not need additional volunteers on Thanksgiving Day, but would love to tell you about other ways to help if you’re unable to donate food or deliver meals. Call our office to talk to someone about volunteering at the mission (919-934-9257).
